Frequently asked questions

  • How long is a session?

An individual counselling session lasts for 50 minutes

  • Is it better to meet in person?

This is totally up to you. When I started practising therapy, I was sceptical that an online session could offer the same relational benefits between therapist and client that is often experienced in person.

However, I have learned that positive and helpful attunement between two people is entirely and surprisingly possible via the screen.

Many clients prefer the feeling of ‘safety’ and ‘convenience’ of communicating online. Others feel that they get more from the human connection in a room. Remember it is possible to switch from one mode to another dependant on availability.

  • Will therapy help me?

This is the million-dollar question. Life is messy, complicated and difficult and I do not personally ascribe to the view that a few therapy sessions represent a ‘fix all’ solution.

However, I do believe that talking through your worries with somebody, often for the first time, who is trained and attuned to pick out the key issues, can significantly help you discover a steadier, more assured path within yourself.

Good therapy can take time and what you get from it will often depend on how much you are prepared to put into it. I work within the BACP framework meaning that I always hold an ethically and responsibly minded approach to therapy at front of mind.

  • Payment methods

Payment is made by bank transfer prior to the session

  • How many sessions will I need?

It’s impossible to answer this question in a nutshell as we are all unique. I would suggest an initial block of 6-12 sessions which can be reduced or increased as we go along at at the same agreed time every week.  We would then regularly review your experience together and shift goals or approaches accordingly.

  • How often will we meet?

This depends on you. However, it is recommended that sessions are weekly to maximise the benefits of therapy. Life often does get in the way so I do try and work as flexibly as possible around other commitments you may have.

  • How much will one session cost?

An individual session of 50 minutes is £75

I offer concessions to students dependant on availability.

  • Cancellations

I know that cancellations are sometimes inevitable. I ask that you cancel within 24 hours of the session, otherwise the full fee is chargeable.

I offer a free 15/20 minute introductory phone or video consultation - no strings attached.

It’s a chance for you to ask any questions about the process, for me to learn more about what's going on for you and, most vitally, for us both to see how we might work together. Finding the right therapeutic match really does matter.
